WOODLAND WALKS

I live rurally in the Ochil Hills and during the summer of 2020, I was made more appreciative of my surroundings. I was very lucky to be able to get out on solitary walks with my dog, Artie.

That particular summer in Perthshire was very warm and the grasses and woodlands were green and healthy looking, the opposite of how the World felt at the time. Walking offered up moments of tranquillity and creativity and provided a breathing space away from the anxiety I was feeling.

The mosses and lichens inspired me and my project for the 100 days meant I began to pick up my art materials again. My main focus during the days was attempting to convey the rich colours and beautiful designs of the foliage and flora all around me.

Seeing all the other projects on the go was both a little intimidating, because of the standard, and inspiring, giving me the incentive to keep going. A master of procrastination, I realised that it was okay to post work that I might not like with the idea that at least I was doing something creative daily. Painting became metal working and then back to painting and I thoroughly enjoyed it all.

Summer 2020 will be remembered for many things but for me it felt like the recovery of a lost part of myself.
