100 DAYS OF WILBUR

When I drew 100 sketches of Wilbur back in 2020, it turned out to be the last project dedicated solely to him. Dearest Wilbur died last year aged about fourteen, after battling cancer for several years.

We both enjoyed the 100 Days Project and Wilbur could hear me pick up my pen and sketchbook two rooms away. 'Not another sketch' he'd think - and pretend to be fast asleep as I sat down opposite him and started drawing. Then, when I was about halfway through, he'd suddenly throw himself into a very vigorous wash, or wander off looking for a plate of chicken. It was great practise for drawing quickly, although I think I always added the colour from memory.

I miss him terribly and I'm so pleased to be able to share these sketches and celebrate 100 days of his life in this online exhibition.
