PRINT & STITCH

My motivation to take part in the 2020 100 Day Project Scotland was to find a way to make time to focus on my love of all things print.

I decided this would be the main focus for my 100 day project, to use my knowledge and previous experience of printmaking techniques to produce a series of work from my small home studio space. I wanted to explore accessible techniques, monoprinting and geliprint to produce abstract artworks focused on mark making.

A common feature in my work is to combine layers of colour to create depth. Each layer and colour choice is instinctively based on the previous layer. I combined textures and patterns using found objects to create organic and free flowing designs. As the project evolved I became more interested in combining a geometric and graphic element to the project in contrast with the softer and more organic marks and shapes within each piece.

This idea development started within this project and has continued to evolve beyond the 100 day project.
