CREATIVE COLOUR

Following on from my blue & white watercolour sketches in 2020 I wanted to continue to develop my skills in watercolour and decided to use the same format - small 7”x 5” watercolour sketches.

The challenge I set my self for 2021 was to use only three colours each day in my watercolour sketches, but it could be a different three colours each day. I wanted to explore colour mixes and the properties of the pigments in watercolour paints and am delighted that the result of the project gave me a fantastic 100 page reference library of colour mixes that I continually refer to now.

Interestlngly, for my second 100 days project I spent months agonising over what my challenge would be, whereas in 2020 I had made a quick spontaneous decision. That was definitely the best way!

Part of the difficulty in making decisions stemmed from a personal failing of finding it hard not to want to create something which looked good - specially as it would be posted on social media! However as the project progressed, and life was noticeably busier in 2021 than it had been in 2020, I realised that I was placing too much emphasis on this and consequently pressure on myself. Also I totally understood that in keeping with the ethos of the project we should be creating and posting - and not tweaking and changing - and that it becomes unsustainable if we worry about the finished result.

Hence by the time I started the 2022 project I had learnt what was achievable each day for me and set my challenge accordingly!
