LOCKDOWN STATIONARY, STATIONERY DRAWINGS

Taking part in the 2020 100 days project Scotland gave me a daily focus during lockdown. I chose to produce a daily drawing using bits of scrap paper and stationery (biro, ballpoint, marker pens etc.), whatever was at hand.

Some are on the doodle end of the scale and some are what I would term ‘elaborate doodles’. I didn’t set out to produce specific or themed images. My drawings are automatic/improvisatory. I sort of let the line dictate where the drawing is going to go. There might be some music in the background which may have some influence on the energy of the lines and cross-hatching. With the more elaborate doodles, I see forms emerging and use a tonal range to draw them out.

On the longer term, I may group these drawings in different, larger compositions or collages and use some as a springboard for 3D works.
